HEY FACEBOOK ... LET ME IN!!!

I'm Jeff Dyson!

I recently upgraded my iPhone and my Two-Factor Authentication didn't transfer over. Now I'm locked out of my account and everything attached to it, and I have no way of speaking to anyone at Facebook for resolution.

Here's what happened and hopefully Facebook will see this and at least give me some direction on how to regain access to my account.

Here's the story ... I visited the Apple Store in Ann Arbor, Michigan on March 2, 2025 and upgraded my phone. I traded in my old iPhone 13 for a shiny, new iPhone 16 (huge thank you to my wife for this as a birthday present). Everything seemed to go smoothly as the sales guy asked if I had backed up my phone (which I had previously done earlier in the day) and they were able to do the setup where all my data was restored from the iCould backup.

So far, everything seemed to be going well because all of my apps seemed to be on my new device. All my photos and email accounts appeared as they should, and all seemed to be going smoothly so I left the store and drove home. I say "drive home" like it was a quick trip to the mall but I actually live in Indiana, about 2.5 hours from this store so it's more like an all-day event to get there and back.

TROUBLE STRIKES ...

I mentioned the 2.5 hour drive home because it took that long before I started using my phone and tried to get into my Facebook account. When I tried to login on my new iPhone, I got a message saying that 2-Factor Authentication was enabled on my account and I needed to input the code from the 2FA app.

OH CRAP!

Oh wait, no worries, it gave me the option of sending me a text so I could login by inputting the code I would receive via text. I tried that option but never received the text message. I waited for about 5-10 minutes and tried it again. Still nothing. After another 5-10 minutes, I figured I would try it again. Now it doesn't give me that option. :-(

Next I did what most people would do when they're stuck and need to figure something out ... try EVERYTHING they suggest on their support pages!

Here are a few of the many things I've tried to recover my account:

Request a change of password

Tell Facebook that you think the account has been hacked / compromised

Login with a different email address

Login using your phone number

Now, after trying all the suggestions they offer on their own support pages and going around in circles, I get a message that says I have violated community standards because I've tried to login too many times. Hence, my locked account. Apparently I'm supposed to wait for some timeframe before logging in again but no one knows exactly how long I'm supposed to wait.

I have no idea how long Facebook will keep me locked out of my account but I've read that after 180 days they will disable or delete the account. NOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Nothing works and the only option I have is input the 2FA code from my old device which is now sitting in some warehouse, ready to be shipped back to a manufacturer for parts or something. I've contacted Verizon, Apple, and Microsoft and spent a combined total of 3 hours on the phone with various support agents who have said they cannot help.

The worst part of all this is that I am a business owner and have Facebook ads running for my business (which I can no longer access). I am also the President of the local Chamber of Commerce and now locked out of that account as well (so no more posting of other local businesses or chamber events from me). So all I am able to do right now is to create this page on my own domain (jeffdyson.com) and let them know that it's really me.

Remember this older profile photo? It's probably saved in my account. It's a photo of me flying a plane:
